I know, the words Canine Freestyle bring shudders to some people how Ultimate Frisbee does to me. But this is just beautiful. I challenge anyone to tell me they've seen something as sweet and as moving as this.
Summer was adopted by me at the tender age of 3 mths, from a wonderful foster agency called Earth Angels.
She was one of the lucky ones - never in a shelter, and adopted really quickly.
But when I look back on her puppyhood, and how many pant legs she destroyed by jumping and chewing on me, how many leashes and collars junked, how many stuffed toys she went through in a year, I wonder about why she was given up for adoption to begin with. She apparently had a previous owner for a mth, and then stayed with foster people for two weeks, which also makes me think she was taken from her littermates far too early.
When you adopt an animal, or procure one from a breeder, or heck even one of those morally-questionable pet stores, you have them for life. Yours, or the animal's. Please don't give up your animal, despite what he or she has done. All our animals are our responsibility, they're not the latest It Bag.
And if anyone should have any questions on whether a foster or shelter animal can be a great one, Summer is my living proof, as are many of our other friends in the park.
If you can, adopt. There are many future obedience/agility/rally O/freestyle/dock diving/flyball/earth dog stars in our local shelters and foster homes. And even if they never make it to any competition trials and never get any titles, they still have the biggest starring role in our everyday lives.
